Art markets and street fairs, and my first art challenge

Previously painted pmagnets.

Next week, on Thursday, I’ll haul my goods down to Alberta Street in Portland, OR for Last Thursdays on Alberta. I did this last month, and even sold a couple of prints! But in June, July and August, they close the street for 15 blocks, and it becomes a Thing.

To get ready, I challenged myself to paint 32 mini canvases (which I turn into magnets) in the eight days I had left. Four per day was a reasonable first challenge for a somewhat scatter-brained artist.

I tackled the first four a bit too eagerly, and spent hours making them nice and creepy. And then it was time to sleep and they weren’t finished.

Pre-varnish, almost done!
First four finished!

For day two, after finishing up the first four, I re-strategized, prepping the remaining canvases with a coat of black, then tackling eight at once with similar designs. It was still slow work, and I had an improv show to distract me.

Now I have four days left. Since I chose different colors for this batch, I’ll have to finish them a couple at a time! Everything is a lesson.

Now I return to painting. Check out Last Thursdays on Alberta and come find me on June 25th!
